About Us

WeaveTales is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Jacksonville, Florida.

Our mission is to humanize immigrant experiences— especially for those who have faced forced displacement. We aim to correct misconceptions through education and by sharing immigrants’ stories in their own words.

These actions support local and global peacebuilding efforts, help new Americans experience a welcoming home where they can fully thrive and contribute, and leverage the strength that comes from the diversity in our nation.

Our work transcends geography and incorporates the knowledge, wisdom, and experiences of refugees and immigrants from around the globe.

What We Believe

WeaveTales Creates meaningful change.
  • We believe that amplifying the stories of refugees and immigrants can correct widespread misconceptions and create greater opportunities for refugees and immigrants to optimally contribute to their families, organizations, communities, and economies.

  • We believe in supporting local and global economic and peacebuilding efforts that leverage the strength that comes from diversity, inclusion, and belonging in our nation.

  • We believe in the power of every leader, community member, and business to create welcoming, inclusive, and thriving conditions that are mutually beneficial for everyone.

Our Why

Why focus Storytelling?

The stories we tell ourselves, the stories others tell about us, and the stories we tell each other about others affect us at our core and create the world we live in. Evidence shows that immigrants, especially those who experience forced displacement, are misunderstood, underestimated, and viewed as people to be feared or ostracized as a result of misconceptions.

Misconceptions and misunderstandings occur and are perpetuated through stories and assumptions learned in family and work systems, communities, media, and dehumanizing rhetoric. Stories about immigrants are commonly incorrect and incomplete, and they place people at odds with one another.

These stories affect us at a neurobiological and behavioral level. As a consequence, we all experience the harmful physical, emotional, and economic effects of unconscious and conscious bias, discrimination, exclusion, and aggression.

Understanding based in truth is good for all of us.

WeaveTales was founded to honor and empower refugees, immigrants, and advocates through storytelling in order to break the cycles of harm created by negative perceptions based on incorrect narratives about immigrants, especially those who have experienced forced displacement.

At WeaveTales, we want you to know and make decisions based on humanity and the truth.
